Lark 'N Ride is on wheels! The Larkin Development Group unveiled Buffalo's first ever employer-based bicycle sharing program today. Six vintage Republic Bikes are now available for use during business hours at no charge to tenants of the developer's Larkin District properties.
The new bike sharing program provides a greener, healthier transportation alternative for Larkin District employees, who are likely to find the Lark 'N Ride a convenient way to make short trips without guzzling gas. Since the 2009 National Household Travel Survey reveals 28% of all trips in the United States are one mile or less, shifting some of these trips from car to bike is achievable. Lunches, business meetings, personal errands - why take the car when bikes are so fun?
A reduced carbon footprint, trimmed waistline, and thicker wallet are all benefits for participants in such bike sharing programs. The Larkin Development Group now joins an emerging vanguard of bike-friendly employers across North America, such as Humana, Arup, and the City of Montréal, that are offering up branded bike fleets for employee use. Got your helmet ready?
