Yet another milestone in the redevelopment of the Hydraulics and Larkin District - the completion of a sweeping, $2 million overhaul of the street infrastructure of the neighborhood - was marked today in a ceremonial ribbon cutting at the new Larkin Square. The Buffalo News captured the noon event in video:
Mayor Byron W. Brown, Howard Zemsky of the Larkin Development Group, and John Koelmel of First Niagara Financial Group were on hand with the big scissors to officially unveil the completed Larkin District Streetscape Project. A new public square, expanded sidewalks, bicycle lanes, bulb-outs, enhanced lighting, and extensive landscaping have given the rustic industrial district an entirely new look. The project is the foundation for ongoing revitalization projects in the neighborhood. As Koelmel puts it, "We've only really gotten to the starting line."
